Established as a Madrasa by Ghaziuddin Khan in 1780 and developed into Delhi college in 1825. Evening classes began in 1958. In 1975 the college was taken over by Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, which currently manages the college with Prime Minister as the chair.

The college offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses across three disciplines- Humanities, Commerce and Science.

Disciplines include- Arabic, Bengali, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, Electronics, English, Hindi, History, Mathematics, Persian, Philosophy, Physics, Physical Education Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, Urdu, Zoology

All these courses can be enhanced by add-on course with further computer proficiency and Spoken English Classes for girls, Urdu language course and more. Additionally, the college also provides a one-year Russian language course.

The college has an active career development cell that caters for internships and placements from companies such as IDBI, Federal LIC Ltd. Ernst & Young, Deloitte, IBM and KPMG.

The WiFI enabled college is equipped with canteen and facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports that include- Judo, Table Tennis, Chess & Carrom, Football Field, Basketball Court, Volleyball Court, Cricket and Athletics – For Long Jump Sand Pit.

The college has various societies across academic discipline and hosts annual festival ‘Zeenat’ each year.

The college is well connected with the public transportation system. Delhi Gate Metro lies on the Violet line, Barakhamba Road Metro lies on the Blue line and New Delhi Metro lies on the Yellow line.
