Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

English language test to be attempted by aspirants who wish to pursue studies abroad.

TOEFL, an important test to be taken by students who do not have the English language as native to study in Universities in the United States of America and several other countries. It tests the aptitude of non-native speakers of English to analyse and comprehend English as it is spoken, written and heard in colleges and universities of the United States of America and other countries.


 Sections Structure

The test is essentially divided into speaking, reading, writing and listening. These sections will be structured in a such a way that you will be asked to perform tasks that combine more than one skill, such as:

– Read, listen and then speak in response to a question
– Listen and then speak in response to a question
– Read, listen and then write in response to a question

– Section 1- Reading- 36-56 Questions- 3-4 Passages from academic texts- 60-80 minutes.
– Section 2- Listening- 34-51 Questions- Listening to Lectures, Conversations, Presentations and answering questions-60-90 minutes.

 – Section 3- Speaking- 6 Tasks- Express an opinion on a familiar topic; speak based on reading and listening tasks.- 20 minutes.
– Section 4- Writing- 2 Tasks- Write essay responses based on reading and listening tasks; support an opinion in writing- 50 minutes.

Exam Date

There are no fixed official TOEFL dates. The candidates are provided with options to choose the specific dates from. However, the allotment of the test date will be subject to availability of seat. There are no restrictions on retaking the TOEFL test. However, you cannot appear for the same more than once in a 12-day period.

Exam Fees

The application fee for TOEFL is $170 for Indian students, which would roughly translate to ₹ 11,000-12,000.


Printed scorecard is generated and mailed approximately 13 days after the candidate has appeared for the test. The scorecard should be delivered at home in approximately 4-6 weeks.
